Crohn's isn't an infectious disease. The symptoms can vary from one person to another but the most common are abdominal pain, especially at the lower right quadrant and diarrhea. Other symptoms are skin disorders, fever, rectal bleeds, weight loss and arthritis.

I have Crohn's disease and is vegitarian. What do you suggest me to eat? What would be good in my diet?
I heard the high-fiber foods, but need some suggestions on high-fiber food to eat. I tried eating nuts the other week which was a mistake. It was one of the worst pain ever in my stomach. Apparently, cashew nuts or peanuts are not good for Crohn's. It caused severe flare up, and much pain. Can anyone suggest foods which can be good for me and maybe even make me feel better?
No! High fiber foods are terrible for someone with Crohn's. I had surgery about 2 months ago due to Crohn's. They took 16 inches of my small intestine because it affects so with wounds. Eat food that is very low in fiber. Fiber will scrape your intestines, causing more wounds, and I, it can cause intestinal bleeding. Cashew nuts and peanuts are not good because they can actually get stuck in those areas in your intestines / colon as inflammed. Eat low-fiber foods, are vegitarian does not help, but if you steam (I speak as steam the shit out of them) your vegetables, it helps to lower the fiber in them. Take care of yourself and get some expert advice, you do not want to go through what I had to and to be honest, I have heard the worse. Low fiber, do a food log. When you eat all the logs and then if you have a problem, try to pinpoint what food caused it and stop eating it. This is really helpful. Hope this helped. God Bless

is patient with ulcerative colitis always has bloody stool all his life?
i ve been diagnosed as uc one week and i am still in acute attack ..is this attack of bloody stool will go?and what is best treatment for me right now..iam so scared
Ulcerative colitis is an ongoing (chronic) condition that may flare up throughout your life. You may have only mild symptoms or long periods without symptoms. A few people have symptoms that are persistent and severe.
People who have only mild symptoms that respond to home treatment cope well with the disease. But for some others, ulcerative colitis can be a frustrating and depressing condition. The persistent diarrhea that often occurs may make you feel as if your life revolves around the bathroom, and you may be embarrassed by the symptoms and have a poor body image. However, most people with the condition live normal, productive lives using medications to control inflammation and treat symptoms. In some cases, surgery may be needed. Most people who have surgery say it improved their quality of life.
Ulcerative colitis can cause psychological stress, which in turn may affect the course of the disease. If you are struggling with the condition, seek support from family, friends, clergy, or a professional counselor. A strong social network may reduce stress and make the disease less active.
My daughter was 8yrs old and diagnosed with this, she will be 11yrs old April 7. Here are some home remedies you can try.
Eat a high quality diet in between the attacks. If a specific food causes trouble on multiple occasions, avoid it. But if it happens only once, retest. If you find that cabbage makes your symptoms worse, for example, don't avoid all leafy vegetables.
Fiber may be an important food source for patients suffering from colitis. Apples are a very good source of fibre. But avoid fibre during the flare-ups.
People with ulcerative colitis should consider taking a daily multivitamin/mineral supplement that contains at least 400 micrograms of folate.
Emotional stress is the biggest challenge for colitis sufferers. To reduce stress plan a regular exercise program. Exercise will dissipate the effects of stress better than anything.
Inability to digest lactose, the sugar in milk, can be a factor in colitis . By avoiding all milk products, you may be able to reduce your symptoms.
Strict bed rest with plenty of fluids and a high protein diet are very important.
Foods should be attractively prepared and the patient encouraged to eat.
The diet should contain at least 2500 calories a day, given in three or four general meals.
Vitamin K can help to prevent hemorrhage from the bowel.
Avoid eating raw carrots, asparagus, zucchini, squash and other popular vegetables.
Marshmallow root is soothing and healing to inflamed mucous membranes.
Wild yam is known to reduce gastrointestinal upset and nerve pain, and is also considered to be a strong antispasmodic and is potentially anti-inflammatory.
Ginger has traditionally been recommended in Chinese medicine for abdominal bloating, coughing, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Cayenne is helpful for various conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, including stomachaches, cramping pains, and gas.
Many doctors suggest eliminating all sugar (including soft drinks and processed foods with added sugar) from the diets of those with ulcerative colitis.
Laughing provides us with the natural inner massage, and through change of mood it can account for up to 30% of cure.
Angelica nutritionally supports the digestive systems.
Mandrake works well for liver, gallbladder and all aspects of digestion.
Diarrh nourishes the spleen, pancreas, stomach and kidneys.
Peppermint calms the stomach, intestinal tract, and the nervous system. It comforts the stomach and nourishes the salivary glands to help with digestion.
Another potential natural remedy is to take oral butyrate itself. Butyrate is the byproduct of fermentation in a healthy gastric tract.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) symptoms can appear quite suddenly, which cause increased stress. Not knowing when you may have an attack or how to cope with an attack can add undue stress to your life, which will make your IBS even worse. Knowing how to react to an IBS bout and how to prevent attacks will help you cope with your IBS symptoms more readily and will help improve your life.
There are many different names for IBS which is also referred to as spastic colon, spastic bowel, spastic colitis, irritable colon, mucous colitis and nervous or functional bowel. All of these names mean that you have a gastrointestinal disorder that affects mainly the large intestine.
The large intestine is where the stool is produced and stored in the digestive system. If you have IBS symptoms, your bowels may squeeze the stool too lightly or too hard which causes the nerves and muscles to become extra sensitive. This then can cause your food to move either too quickly or too slowly through your intestines, which can cause diarrhea or constipation, as well as other symptoms.
The IBS symptoms that can occur include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, constipation, swollen or bloated abdomen and excess gas. If you have had these symptoms regularly for a while, then you will want to visit your doctor. IBS symptoms are very common. In fact, some studies have suggested that up to 20 percent of Americans have it or have had it at one time or another. If you have IBS symptoms, keep in mind that you are not alone in your suffering.
IBS doesn't normally manifest itself until you are an adult. The average age that IBS symptoms begin is around 20 years old. If you have recently been diagnosed with IBS, you need to know that it's something that you can control. Your life does not have to significantly change for you to have a full and productive life.
IBS causes are not very clear. Most doctors define it as a functional disorder due to the fact that it causes the bowels to function wrong. There are a few things that are clear. Stress can make your IBS symptoms worsen. Thus, you may get pains more frequently or suffer from more severe pains. Getting fired, having a death in the family or going through a divorce can cause IBS symptoms to occur more readily and severely.
Still another factor that affects IBS symptoms is your diet. Some foods can cause you to have symptoms, much in the same way as an allergic reaction does. It's usually thought that dairy products, caffeine, fatty foods, alcohol and carbonated drinks can cause IBS symptoms while some people are also affected by tea, citrus fruits and wheat products.
Keep track of the foods that you eat so that you can determine which ones cause you to have IBS symptoms. If you write down everything you eat for a few weeks then you will be able to identify the foods that give you a problem so that you can quit eating them. Although it's a time consuming exercise, the decrease in your IBS symptoms will more than make up for it.
There are also some foods that can help reduce your IBS symptoms. Fiber-rich foods like apples, peaches, broccoli, carrots, cabbage and peas are very helpful if you have constipation dominant IBS. Whole grain foods like bread or cereal are also very good for IBS sufferers. Learning more about fiber-rich foods will help you eat better. If you are not a fan of fruits and vegetables, then you can use a high-fiber pill or supplement, but the fruits and vegetables work much better.
Taken as a dietary supplement, IBS DropsRx has an antispasmodic effect on the gut and intestines; it delivers a curative effect against IBS providing reversal of the condition. IBS DropsRx acts as a calming demulcent, it forms a soothing film when exposed to mucous membranes, relieving irritation of the gut and inflamed mucous membranes. As a result, it is also an analgesic that provides immediate relief of pain and discomfort associated with IBS.
Your doctor may suggest fiber supplements or laxatives for constipation or medicines to decrease diarrhea, such as Lomotil or loperamide (Imodium). An antispasmodic is commonly prescribed, which helps to control colon muscle spasms and reduce abdominal pain. Antidepressants may relieve some symptoms. However, both antispasmodics and antidepressants can worsen constipation, so some doctors will also prescribe medications that relax muscles in the bladder and intestines, such as Donnapine and Librax. These medications contain a mild sedative, which can be habit forming, so they need to be used under the guidance of a physician.
Extracts in IBS DropsRx provide a calming sedative effect. They deliver a profound calming effect not only on the physical imbalance caused by IBS but also on an emotional level. They have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and anti-spasmodic effects. Learn how to manage your IBS symptoms with IBS DropsRx in http://www.naturespharma.org.

Controlling diet for ulcerative colitis patients???
I always thought that nutients and what not are absorbed in the small intestine.
So why do patients with ulcerative colitis (which is in the large intestine) need to watch out about what they're eating (no fatty foods, sour or hot food, etc). I mean i know that if you eat really hot food even a normal person might get diarrhoea, but i thought that the large intestine is only responsible for absorbing water and minerals/??
So is there a valid reason for discriminating food? And what exactly should you avoid??
Different foods promote inflammation; it doesn't have to touch that part once your body has digested it.
Knee joints aren't involved in digestion but still get inflamed from RA sufferers eating white bread and cake.

Colon cleansing simply means cleaning the colons, the intestines. Intestines play most important role in nourishing the body since without them, digestion, absorption and assimilation is quite impossible. The entire gastrointestinal tract has been designed in a marvelous way that the tract work onto the food consumed and acts upon them to make food particles. The food particles are then converted into chyme and then with the help of various enzymes and other digestive secretion, the food particles are turned into compatible mode that the intestines absorb and provide nutrition to rest of the bodily organs.
Colon cleansing is a therapy that helps removing gluey substance, unwanted/harmful material from the body, especially from the bowels. There are many ways to cleanse the colons, herbal colon cleansing, being the most trusted and so adopted worldwide. The herbal colon cleansing includes the natural herbs that possess natural cleansing properties and help removing toxins from the body. However, the formula is prepared depending upon what purpose it has to serve; here are few of the herbs that have been prescribed or used in colon cleansing formulas:
Buckthorn bark: This is another multi-purpose herb that has been used in many colon cleansing products. The bark can soften the stools by drawing water into the intestines and hence can naturally relieve the constipation. It also strengthens the intestinal walls so that they absorb nutrients in a better way.
Rhubarb root: This is, probably, the most popular colon cleansing herb. The main function of this wonderful herb is that it will help passing stools and relieving nausea up to certain extent.
Echinacea: One of the most useful agents used in intestinal cleansing products since it boosts the immune system and aids digestion. Another useful property of this herb is it restores the intestinal flora and hence helps restoring the digestion.
Barberry Root: Another natural antioxidant that has been used in many products formulated to relive constipation and cleansing the intestines. It also kills parasites and its larvae making entire gastrointestinal tract free from any infestation.
Red Clover: This serves as a mild laxative. This is because of the herb helps to stimulate the intestines to push wasteful material through the bowels towards rectum/anus.
Dandelion Root: This is another mild laxative from the Mother Nature. Dandelion root is found in many of the herbal colon cleansing products. The leaves of the herb are helpful in digestion. The herb also possesses antioxidant properties and thus, helps removing toxins and cleanses the intestines.
Cramp bark: Cramp's bark has been practiced by many holistic healers in order to relieve the abdominal spasm and to promote peristalsis.
Cayenne Pepper: It is very commonly found in many of the colon cleansing kits due to its natural anthelmintic properties. The herb creates poisonous environment for the parasites and also relieves abdominal gas curing flatulence and bloating.
Psyllium husks: Psyllium has been used to combat many digestive complaints like constipation, loose motions, diverticular diseases and colitis. Furthermore, Psyllium has been considered to be the agent that can prevent the colon cancer
Ayurvedic herbs like Eclipta alba, Ginger and Pepper: They all have been practiced in typical Ayurvedic practice. These herbs are well known for their properties that assist intestines to digest the food properly, restoring enzymes and eliminating the parasites from the bowels.
Hello!
I am 15 years old and was diagnosed with Indeterminate Colitis earlier this year. Lately I have been having severe joint pain in my knees, ankles, and sometimes my elbows. My doctor ran the tests for lupus which came back negative, and said my joint problems could be caused by my Colitis. Does anyone have the same problem? If so, what do you do to help with the pain and gaining back mobility? Over the counter pain relivers such as tylenol and ibueprofen haven't helped much. Any suggestions are appreciated!
Thanks!
Joint pain is a common complication of inflammatory bowel disease, but sometimes it can also result from certain medications used to treat colitis. If you are on steroid medications for your condition, especially Prednisone, you may want to consider that as a possible cause of your joint pain.
I would not reccomend taking medications like ibuprofen, since these belong to a class of medications called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs which can actually make your condition worse, so, if possible, avoid NSAID medications unless your doctor has told you that it is safe in your case. You mentioned Tylenol, which is considered safe since it is not an NSAID.
In the mean time, you might try applying moist heat to the affected joints to see if that helps. Also, rest the joints as much as you can. I hope that helps. Good luck and good health!

Hopefully, I do not have colitis.
I went to a website after looking it up on yahoo answers,
and founf some of my symptoms were true for this disease or condition and some to prove false to this accusation. Recently I have been having an extreme case of "the runs" and at first they were extremely watery and made well, bluntly, a poo water. LITERRALLY. But the second day they started to become not as big, and would have little red specks resembling food, not blood, but it could very well be. They also looked thin, not at all what normal poo looks like, like a solid, this looked flaky or paper thin. But the first "accident" happened in the morning, while I was getting ready for school.I literally felt myself beginning to use the bathroom, and ran for the toilet. It has been three days. and I have had these flaky, thin types of accidents for the past two days.I had the watery ones on the first day, about 2 0r 3 times and had to DASH to the bathroom. The last time I found a lot of goo in it!
hi just, for accurate information please check out the Crohn's & Colitis of America website. They have updated information on treatments, diagnosis, diet, etc. They even have a hotline and live chat that is run by healthcare professionals well versed in IBD (inflammatory bowel disease--Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn's Disease).
Give your GI a call and see if he can run some tests to r/o that out plus IBS, spastic colon, etc.
