Coupler Rebuild
Wednesday, February 24th, 2010Coupler Rebuild

I have 1994 ford f150. The fuel line has been pushed too far onto the filter to use filter tool. What can I do?
I can't get a filter Removal Tool onto it because the quick couplers have been shoved clear up to the body of the filter instead of half way and the plastic retainers being used to secure it. I don't want to replace the fuel line but I don't see a lot of other options. Truck will go to junk yard if I can't fix. 320.000 miles on body. 100,000 on rebuilt motor but runs good normally.
They are the push type connectors. It is highly unusual, as you say, for this to happen. It's as if someone went out of there way to make the job harder on themselves and push them on all of the way.
Are you sure you are using the correct tool? It usually is not possible to push a quick lock connector past the lip on the fuel filter, if so , you should be able to pull it back out. Have a look below to see what type connector you have.
